Abstract

This study was done to find out the efficacy and accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in diagnosing Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL), Medial Meniscus (MM) and Lateral Meniscus (LM) injuries by determining the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) in comparison to arthroscopy which is set as the reference point or gold standard. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only study done in a private hospital and the largest Malaysian study comparing MRI and arthroscopy in patients with knee injury. We also analysed the pitfall of MRI in detecting cruciate and meniscal injuries and how to avoid them.
