Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyposis Patients' Quality of Life Post Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery with Adjuvant Macrolide Therapy

The objective of this study is to compare the quality of life (QoL) in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) patients post functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) treated with long-term macrolide therapy, short-term macrolide therapy and without macrolide therapy. This is a prospective study non-randomization control study conducted at Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) clinic in KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital, Kuala Lumpur. A total of 40 patients diagnosed with CRSwNP that were within the inclusion criteria underwent FESS from June 2014 to January 2016. Post FESS, patients were treated with 3 different modalities determined by the surgeon depending on his clinical clinical judgement. Group 1 and 2 received clarithromycin (Klacid MR, 500mg/day) for short-term (2-5 weeks, n=12) and long-term (6-8 weeks, n=14) respectively. Group 3 did not receive macrolide (n=14). The QoL pre and post FESS at 3 months and 12 months were evaluated using 22-item SinoNasal Outcome test (SNOT-22)
